Programs Offered
EMT-Basic This program consists of 2 courses, EMTC 0123 and EMTC 0124. After successfully completing EMTC 0124, the student is eligible to sit for the certification exam administered by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services.
The goals of the EMT-B program are to graduate students who are:
- Committed to the ideal of highest quality patient care in the pre-hospital setting on the Basic Life Support level
- Capable of, and interested in, sustaining their own continuing education to maintain the highest quality patient care
MICT (Paramedic) There are 4 core courses for the MICT Program. Core requirements are EMTC 0227, EMTC 0228, EMTC 0229, and EMTC 0230. Upon successful completion of those courses, the student is eligible to sit for the certification exam administered by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services.
**Certification as an EMT-Basic is a pre-requisite for acceptance into the MICT program. Other pre-requisites may be found in the program description.
The goals of the MICT program are to graduate students who are:
- Effectively trained to deal with all aspects of care in the pre-hospital arena
- Capable of functioning independently and effectively in all types of pre-hospital employment
- Capable of sustaining their own continuing education by establishing within themselves the capacity to become a life-long learner
- Able to utilize their training as a building block for successive steps on the healthcare ladder if they so choose
- Capable of becoming a leader in issues related to EMS
Emergency Medical Technician – Basic
There are no pre-requisites in terms of coursework for the EMT-Basic program. You must, however, have an AccuPlacer Reading score of 65 to be allowed to enroll in EMTC 0123. The Director of the EMT/MICT Department handles all enrollments. Currently classes are conducted in the afternoon and evening. Fall/Spring EMT classes are two days per week with EMTC 0124 ending around mid-term. Spring/Summer EMT classes are conducted three days a week with EMTC 0124 concluding in mid-to-late July.
DUE TO KANSAS BOARD OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES REQUIREMENTS DISCUSSED, NO LATE ENROLLMENT IS ALLOWED AND FIRST DAY ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.
EMTC 0123 Emergency Medical Technician
The EMT courses (EMTC 123 and EMTC 124) provide the opportunity to gain the knowledge and develop the skills necessary to administer basic life support care to ill or injured patients, and upon defined successful completion, apply for certification as an EMT in the state of Kansas. A minimum of ten clock hours of clinical or field work, in addition to scheduled class time, are required. This will be scheduled through the instructor. EMTC 123 must be successfully completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to taking EMTC 124.
EMTC 0124 Emergency Medical Technician II
The EMT courses (EMTC 123 and EMTC 124) provide the opportunity to gain the knowledge and develop the skills necessary to administer basic life support care to ill or injured patients, and upon defined successful completion, apply for certification as an EMT in the state of Kansas. A minimum of ten clock hours of clinical or field work, in addition to scheduled class time, are required. This will be scheduled through the instructor. EMTC 124 must be successfully completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to challenging the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services certification exam. (EMTC 0124 is a continuation of EMTC 0123.)
