The Exercise Science Department at Kansas City Kansas Community College offers an Associate in General Studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences and Certificate Program for students interested in pursuing the following career areas:
Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Health Promotion, Health Education, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Coaching, Health and Wellness Administration, Corporate Fitness, Hospital Wellness, Leisure, Aerobics Instructor, Strength Training and Conditioning, Coaching and other related fields.
Mission Statement
The KCKCC Exercise Science Department offers a student learning environment for study. The Exercise Science curriculum utilizes modern laboratory facilities, classroom multi-media equipment, spacious subject-specific exercise areas, an academic resource center, and a computer lab to access online classes and Internet research. Our mission is to help students acquire 21st century learning competencies including communication, computation, community, critical thinking, information management, interpersonal, personal and technology.
The Exercise Science programs curriculum and ongoing assessment leads to professional certification.
Why Study Exercise Science
Exercise Science has become the popular name for fields like Physical Education and Wellness. Students who study Exercise Science usually develop an interest in one of the following areas: Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Health Promotion, Health Education, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Health & Wellness Administration, Corporate Fitness, Hospital Wellness, Leisure, Recreation Therapy, Aerobics Instruction, Strength Training and Conditioning, and Coaching. At KCKCC a student wishing an Associate in Science degree can select one of five areas of specialization; Health/Fitness, Physical Education, Leisure Studies, Coaching, or Athletic Trainer. Students may also elect to complete a one year Exercise Leader Certification Program.
