For the 15th straight year, Kansas City Kansas Community College will be host to the National Youth Sports Program June 14-July 16.
Open to boys and girls 10-16 years of age in the Kansas City, Kansas community whose parents or guardians meet Department of Health & Human Services income guidelines, the NYSP combines sports instruction with exciting educational programs. Those activities include basketball, football, softball, volleyball, soccer, golf, swimming and track and field as well as Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Nutrition and Health, Higher Education and Careers and Math and Science.
Camp hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays with the one exception of Friday, July 16.
There is a $25 participation fee which includes daily USDA-approved meals, transportation to and from the college campus, interaction with area professionals, college students and staff, a NYSP T-shirt and opportunity to win prizes.
In addition to KCKCC, community partners include KCK/Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation, the American Red Cross, Sunflower Hills Junior Golf Course, USD 500 Public Schools of KCK, Kidszone, KCK Public Housing Authority, The first Tee of Greater Kansas City, USD 500 Transportation, the Unified Government of KCK/Wyandotte County Weed and Seed Site No. 117, the Economic Opportunity Foundation and the United Way.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration packets are now available at the Community Education Building on the east side of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue and must be picked up in person. They will not be mailed. Registration will not be considered complete until a current physical examination form is on file.
